Aden - February 23: Media representatives and health professionals drawn from the three governorates of Dhale, Lahej and Aden reaffirmed their commitment to popularize simple and cost effective community and family based strategies that can save the lives of children. Over 120 participants representing media, counterpart departments, NGOs and development partners indulged in a dialogue sparked by the launch of the UNICEF flagship report – The State of the World’s Children 2008. The approach to child survival that the report advocates would see the best disease-specific initiatives combined with investment in strong national health system to create a continuum of care for mothers, newborns and young children that extends from household, to the local clinic, to the district hospitals and beyond.
UNIn Yemen, IVD 2007 was an opportunity for UN Volunteers to focus on promoting volunteerism and raising the spirit of volunteerism, through collaboration with ‘Insan for Development Foundation’ which took place in one of their orphanages houses in Sana'a. UNAn agreement was signed today at the Ministry of Local Administration (MoLA) between the Italian Government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), whereby Italy is contributing Euro 300,000 to the Decentralization and Local Development Support Programme (DLDSP) executed jointly by MoLA, UNDP and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF).
